Understanding your estimated take-home salary and monthly living expenses is essential before relocating to Luxembourg.
A gross monthly salary of €5,000–€6,000 is subject to income tax and social-security contributions. Based on illustrative deductions, employees may receive an estimated net salary of approximately €3,500–€4,000 per month. However, the actual amount depends on factors such as tax class, marital status, dependants, available deductions and individual circumstances.
Accommodation is generally one of the largest monthly expenses. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Luxembourg City may range from approximately €1,500–€2,500 per month. The following occupations may offer visa-sponsorship opportunities in Luxembourg, depending on employer requirements and the availability of qualified candidates:
| Indian qualification | Potential career relevance | Recognition or additional requirements |
|---|---|---|
| IIT/NIT engineering degree | Engineering, technology and eligible EU Blue Card roles | No automatic recognition. The employer assesses suitability; academic recognition may be requested. EU Blue Card eligibility also depends on the employment contract, qualifications and salary threshold. |
| CA (ICAI) with a bachelor’s degree | Accounting, finance, audit and compliance roles | Employer requirements vary. Regulated activities—such as practising independently as a chartered accountant or statutory auditor—may require formal recognition, local examinations, registration or authorisation. |
| CFA charter | Investment analysis, risk management, funds and asset management | A valuable professional credential, but not a Luxembourg government licence or a guarantee of employment. Additional regulatory knowledge may be required for certain positions. |
| AWS, Azure or Google Cloud certifications | Cloud computing, infrastructure and IT roles | Normally assessed by the employer for non-regulated positions. Formal state recognition is generally not required, although an academic degree may still be needed for certain jobs or immigration categories. |
| MBBS | Medical and healthcare professions | An Indian MBBS does not provide direct authorisation to practise medicine. A non-EU medical qualification generally requires prior recognition in another EU Member State, followed by a Luxembourg licence to practise and proof of the required language proficiency. |
Step 1: Secure a Job Offer
Obtain a valid job offer from a Luxembourg employer that is willing to recruit a non-EU national.
Step 2: Employer Declares the Vacancy to ADEM
The employer must register the vacant position with Luxembourg’s National Employment Agency (ADEM). Where applicable, the employer must obtain an ADEM certificate authorising the recruitment of a third-country national.
Step 3: Sign the Employment Contract
Once the necessary ADEM requirements have been completed, the employer and applicant sign an employment contract that complies with Luxembourg labour law.

Before travelling, the applicant must apply for temporary authorisation to stay from Luxembourg’s General Department of Immigration. An employer or authorised representative may submit the application on the applicant’s behalf with a valid power of attorney.
Step 5: Apply for a Type D Visa
After receiving the temporary authorisation, applicants subject to visa requirements must apply for a Type D long-stay visa through the appropriate Luxembourg embassy, consulate or authorised diplomatic mission.
Step 6: Travel to Luxembourg
Once the required authorisation and visa have been issued, the applicant may travel to Luxembourg within their validity periods.
Step 7: Declare Arrival at the Local Commune

Step 8: Complete the Medical Examination
The applicant must undergo the prescribed medical examination and tuberculosis screening in Luxembourg.
